*If you are a homeowner/tenant at an approved Testing Site, click here for test instructions*
The Town of Westlake purchases their water wholesale from the City of Fort Worth. Westlake, along with Fort Worth, routinely conducts thorough testing for contaminants in drinking water. We are responsible for providing high quality drinking water, but we cannot control the variety of materials used in plumbing components.
If present, elevated levels of lead can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead in drinking water is primarily from materials and components associated with service lines and home plumbing. As part of the EPA's recent GLO (Get the Lead Out) Initiative, Town staff recently (Fall 2024) investigated service lines with the intent to remove any potential lead sources. We have confirmed that there are no lead service lines in the Town of Westlake.
For homes built after 1986, which is most homes in Westlake, it is highly unlikely that there is any lead plumbing. Federal laws were updated then to ensure that plumbing materials used in drinking water systems are lead-free. For older homes, while lead levels may sometimes show up in testing, it is often due to older plumbing fixtures or pipes inside the home, rather than the Town’s water supply or service lines. If you are concerned about lead in your water, you may wish to have your water tested. Information on lead in drinking water, testing methods, and steps you can take to minimize exposure is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or on the EPA's website.
The Town of Westlake is fully committed to monitoring the situation and have planned additional testing in 2025 to ensure the water remains safe. Please see below for additional resources.
Westlake Public Inventory (pdf): view the results of our joint venture with the GLO Initiative/EPA. This document shows the service line materials used for each address in Westlake. Search for your address using "Ctrl+F" (search function) and entering your address number. All entries in blue were determined to be lead-free.
