The Town is governed by elected officials who are selected ‘at-large’, meaning they do not run for office based on a district or geographical area of the Town. Even though council members may reside in a specific neighborhood, they serve each resident, corporate stakeholder, staff member, service delivery area (in municipal or academic departments), and stakeholders equally. Residents and stakeholders may reach out to the Mayor or any Council Member if they have feedback or questions about the community.
As elected officials, the Council participates in governance training that is facilitated through a consultant on an annual basis. This not only meets continuing education requirements as a governing board but also helps them grow in their knowledge of the Policy Governance Model which is used by successful boards across the nation.
