Community Announcements and Events

  • Filing for the 2026 general election begins January 14th and ends February 13th for Mayor and Councilmember places 2 and 4.
  • Ongoing toy and food drive by Westlake Fire and EMS through December 23rd
  • Upcoming changes to trash collection: new regular pickup day will move to Thursdays starting January 8th; bulk pickup will be on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays. Adjusted holiday pickup dates provided and posted online.

Council Action Items and Discussions

  • Resolution regarding the Westlake Academy Arts and Sciences building expansion (zoning approval) was passed. 
  • Resolution to accept the Town’s FY 2024 audit report was approved. The audit rendered a clean, unmodified opinion with healthy fund balances and no major concerns.
  • Resolution passed creating an ad hoc committee of council members and citizens to study a public-private partnership with Hillwood for reuse water. The goal is to assess feasibility, financials, and potential system investments. The committee aims to report back in about 60 days.
  • Athletics Recognition

    • Girls cross country: state championship win with individual runners and team members recognized for athletic and academic excellence. Junior high girls and both boys' cross country teams also placed well at state
      • Academy Operations and Policy Updates

        • Personnel manual amendment (regarding use of recording devices) was approved with clarification: restrictions apply only to recordings made as part of employee duties or on school grounds; off-duty or off-campus activities are not restricted.
      • Executive Session and Follow-Up

        • Executive session topics included donations for campus security, which was tabled for further discussion.
        • The council also voted to remove discussion on the Aspen Lane rezoning off the table for the next council meeting
