Town Council Recap (12-9-2024)

General Posted on December 09, 2024

If you missed the Town Council/Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, December 9, here is everything you need to know:

  • Council saw a presentation about the approaches to teaching and learning at Westlake Academy
  • Council cast a vote for Michael Alfred to be appointed to the Tarrant Appraisal District Board of Directors
  • Council took no action on the appointment to the Denton Central Appraisal District Board of Directors
  • Council approved an agreement for improvements for the Solana Hills residential development off of Sam School Road.
  • Council approved amendments to WA's admission policy to eliminate the notice of intent to return form and defined a closing date of January 31st of each year for accepting waitlist applications from secondary boundary students applying to grades K-8.
  • Council approved to change the limit on class sizes. This does not mean all class sizes will increase only the potential for a select few non-core classes to ensure our master schedule is beneficial to all our students. They also voted to reduce the secondary boundary by 17 school districts (no current students reside in those 17 districts)
  • Motion passed to approve the terms of a memorandum of understanding between WA and the House of Commons
  • Council approved the terms of a memorandum of understanding between WA and the WA Booster Club
  • Council approved hiring of a third-party attorney to assist the Town in pending litigation with Vertical Bridge
  • Council approved the appointment of Kim Greaves, Tammy Reeves, Todd Gautier, Michael Yackira, Jim Lentz, and John Nestor to the Economic Development Commission.
